Effect of asymmetric material entrance on lubrication in cold rolling

An Integrated Digital Image Correlation (IDIC) method has been applied to the cold rolling process, images clearly visualise geometry of roll bite and inlet zone. A key, novel finding is that despite using coils applying entry tension, strip can enter asymmetrically in mill. Moreover, it shown asymmetric feeding results an uneven lubricant film thickness between top bottom surface. detailed feed truly symmetrically mill, a procedure necessary for meaningful experimental validation models. For symmetric processes measured corresponds significantly better with theory than processes.
